Why Coaching Feels Awkward at First (And That’s Okay) - Part 1

The beginning is never pretty.

Its been a while I have been thinking of writing about my in-session experiences. Then I thought, why not make it more real. In my client's words. So I am creating a four part series of what happens in my coaching sessions -

I recognize that most clients come to me carrying something heavy.

One reflected after the session: I was completely unaware of my negative thoughts".

This is how auto-pilot looks like. You carry on with your day, thinking your thoughts are yours. Living in constant loop of negative thoughts is a survival brain running your life.

Another said: “I realised I have two sides. One is the joyful, happy‑go‑lucky me. The other is the version that shows up at work trying to protect myself.”

That protector is exhausting. It keeps you quiet. It makes you detach emotionally. It convinces you that survival is enough.

So what do I do, when I have you sitting in front of me, desperate, hopeless and sometimes emotional? As your Coach, my job is to be your thinking partner. So I hang in. I sit through the discomfort with you. I rejoice in your joy. I patiently wait to get clarity and build on your goals, action plans and accountability. I dont judge, dont cirticize, dont advice. All I do is create a safe space for you to be 'yourself'.

And this is where coaching in the first weeks looks slow. Because these are the times, when I simply ask you to notice. No fixing. No rushing. Just plain questions like: “What’s one small thing you feel right now?”

That’s where change starts. Not with a bang, but gently, nudging you to find your guiding light within you.

Part 2 in a few days. Till then, book your intro call here.
